Day 1 of Internship

On the 5th of January 2015, I have reported to Mrs. Dayang Kamsiah Binti Awang Omar at Petronas Liquefied Natural Gas complex in Bintulu for my industrial training. I was then asked to muster at the library for a briefing session by Mr. Bakar Bin Pauzan. I was duly briefed on the company’s core business and activities. Currently the natural gas processing facility in Bintulu is the largest in the world within a single site. I was told that their core activities are processing of raw gases from offshore and turn it into liquefied natural gas (LNG) plus liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Its core business is exporting the natural gas in liquefied form to various customers worldwide via ships.  Most of their cargos are destined to Japan as a clean source of fuel for power generation. The complex is a combination of three PETRONAS joint venture companies namely MLNG Sdn Bhd, MLNG Dua Sdn Bhd and MLNG Tiga Sdn. Bhd. respectively.
An industrial training guidelines booklet is issued to me and the other trainees as reference throughout our training. Apart from that, we were briefed on the rules and regulation that we must abide to while within the plant compound and the consequences of not doing so. The briefing conducted had enlightened me on the company’s vision and mission as per outline by PETRONAS. Their vision is to be a leading oil and gas multinational of choice. In the meantime, their mission statements are; 1. We are a business entity, 2. Petroleum is our core business, 3. Our primary responsibility is to develop and add value to this national resource, 4. Our objective is to contribute to the well-being of the people and the nation.

My Internship Preparation

For the internship programme, Taylor Uni had provide placement for student but I have chosen to go for own placement. For this reason, I decide to go for the planned industrial training at one of the world renowned oil and gas company. The company in question is Malaysia Liquified Natural Gas (Malaysia LNG) Sdn. Bhd, a partly own company of Petronas.
Having chosen a company, the next thing to do is to attend the workshop and training provided by taylor's. The workshop programmes are specially tailored for those who would undergo intern. It would enable me and the others to make adequate preparation as well as to be prepared on what to expect and what are faculty expectation towards us. Throughout the workshop programme, I was duly brief on how to draft a resume for internship application and shown a number of samples to further our understanding.
From thereafter, I start drafting my resume based on the guideline provided. The complete resume was then e-mailed to the human resource department of the company itself as well as posted online in the Petronas e-application form. The resume complements the application letter prepared by Mr. Khairul Hazreen.
I would at certain times ask my lecturer of any doubt with regards to the internship programme. This would re-assure me and makes me more confident in undertaking. The workshop on internship certainly helped a lot as I knew in advance what to do and when to submit the report. The setting of expectation ensures that I perform any task within the timeline satisfactorily and not get lost as the expectation would also act as guideline.

Apart from that, I have been asking around and looking from advice from those whom had internship experience either at the company or other especially from those senior than me. Last but not least, I brought along the notes of what I have learnt in the class and could apply it when completing any given task or assignment.
